New Park Bridge during construction
Park (Ten Mile)
Bridge and Approaches
Cost: $143 million
(BC $80.5 million/Canada $62.5 million)
Completed Winter 2007/08
This phase involved replacing Park Bridge and upgrading approximately 5.8 kilometres of highway approaches between the rest area and commercial vehicle brake check at the top of 10 Mile Hill.
The new Park Bridge and associated highway approaches were opened to traffic on August 30, 2007, 21 months ahead of schedule.
See the Photo Gallery for opening day images and to watch how this 405-metre-long 90-metre-high bridge was built. More information is also in the Facts & Features section.
Through a competitive process led by Partnerships BC, TransPark Highway Group was selected to deliver the improvements to Phase 2 of the Kicking Horse Project. This integrated team approach involved the design and construction of Park Bridge and approaches and the ongoing operation, maintenance and rehabilitation of the entire 26-kilometre section of the Trans-Canada Highway between Golden and Yoho National Park for 25 years. The innovative nature of the partnership agreement enabled this phase of improvement work to be completed substantially ahead of the contractual requirement of 2009.
See the Community Consultation section of this website for high-level design plans and additional information on TransPark Highway Group. More detailed design information can be found in the Phase 2 Technical Drawings.
