The new Park Bridge was opened by Premier Gordon Campbell in a ceremonial “first drive”. The car is a 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air, built the same year as the old Park Bridge.

The Kicking Horse Rest Area west of the new Park Bridge includes river access for rafters. The old highway right-of-way beside the Kicking Horse River finds new life as a recreational trail for hikers and cyclists, ending at a viewpoint on the site of the former Park Bridge.
