Phase 3 Construction Update

October 17, 2011

Until further notice, motorists can expect intermittent delays for construction-related activities from Golden to 4 km east of Golden.

Notice of Traffic Stoppage on August 23

On the night of August 23 girders will be erected across the Trans-Canada Highway for a wildlife overpass 1 km east of Golden.

Expect delays from:
7pm-8pm
10pm-2am
3am-6am

New Overpass Open

The new overpass at Golden Donald Upper Road and the Trans-Canada Highway is now open.

Traffic from Golden Donald Upper Road wishing to access the highway eastbound will use the overpass and merge onto the highway via Golden View Road.

Local traffic between Golden Donald Upper Road and Golden View Road will also use the new overpass.

Traffic southbound on Golden Donald Upper Road headed for town will continue to enter the roundabout, exit onto Lafontaine Road, and turn right to merge onto Highway 1 westbound into Golden.

Roundabout Open at Golden Donald Upper / Lafontaine Road

The new roundabout adjacent to the Visitor Information Centre is now open to vehicles.

Traffic southbound on Golden Donald Upper Road will enter the roundabout, exit onto Lafontaine Road, and turn right to merge onto Highway 1 to head into Golden.

A temporary intersection at the highway is still in place for traffic headed east (via a left turn) or across to Golden View Road.

The Golden Donald Upper Road overpass is still under construction, and will be opened to traffic later this summer.

Traffic Pattern Change - Golden Hill

Traffic will be shifted from Golden View Road onto a portion of the new highway lanes before the middle of June

This section of the Trans-Canada Highway remains single lane in each direction (no passing zone), and the detour/construction speed limit of 50 km/hr is still in effect.

Intersection Re-location

Beginning May 15, the Golden Donald Upper Road intersection at the Trans-Canada Highway will have a new, temporary location approximately 200 metres to the east.

This will allow crews to complete construction of the new overpass.
