Kicking Horse Canyon - Simulation of Possible Improvements
(Highway Perspective Flythrough)
Design work is under way to improve the most difficult section of the canyon (the four kilometres from West Portal to Yoho Bridge) by widening to four lanes, straightening and levelling the alignment, and eliminating rock fall and other hazards. The improved route is expected to require side-by-side tunnels, approximately 6 hazard protection sheds, and up to 12 bridges. This video shows a simulation (travelling from west to east) of such possible future improvements from a highway-level perspective. To see a high-up view of this simulation, go to the Aerial Perspective Flythrough.
The Kicking Horse Canyon Project is currently in the third of four phases.
